A Thing for the Past

“I only occasionally watch blockbusters,” says Silke Schmickl, the lead curator for moving image at M+ museum, clarifying that she only watches commercial movies that have “an aesthetic appeal”. Recently, she enjoyed Dune, for example, and says she might watch the latest Tom Cruise film, Top Gun. This is just about what one might expect of an art film fanatic like Schmickl, who has the top job at the museum’s cinema, which opened its doors in early June.
