With Audio-Technica currently enjoying 60th anniversary celebrations, it’s an easy calculation to realise that the company’s M50x studio headphone design has now been around for precisely a decade, widely lauded for both personal and studio monitoring use, and with special or limited editions arriving regularly with either technical tweaks or some new colour scheme.
So there have been many versions of the M50, but here the ‘BT2’ at the end of the model name is unmistakable: this latest variant is a Bluetooth wireless version, updating the original M50xBT that was released in 2018.
The ongoing wireless success of the M50x has also persuaded Audio-Technica to add wireless abilities to the lower M20x studio headphone, making the entry price for the company’s wireless headphones far more affordable.

Priced at $379 and currently listed in black only, the M50xBT2 headphones are a closed-back design built solidly of primarily strong plastic, supported by an adjustable steel headband, and with soft leatherette for the earpads and a full wrap of the headband.
They have oversized 45mm drivers, mobile-friendly 38-ohm impedance, and sensitivity of 99dB/W/m. The frequency response is quoted
