JAR OF COURAGE

As his older siblings played together, my normally hyper six-year-old lazed on the sofa.

‘What’s up, Carson?’ I asked.

‘I’ve got a headache,’ he said.

He looked sorry for himself.

Then all of a sudden, he jumped up and ran straight to the bathroom.

I followed him, and as he started retching in the toilet, I gently rubbed his back.

‘Oh, Carson,’ I said, feeling his forehead.

He must have picked up a bug at school, I thought.

Once he stopped being sick, I gave him some Calpol and he seemed to brighten up.

But his headaches kept coming back.

‘I’m worried,’ I said to his dad Arron, 35, as I booked a doctor’s appointment.
