Ancestry has recently added an enormous new collection bringing together vital genealogical resources for all of Sussex that for centuries have lived apart, preserved in churches, parish chests and disparate repositories.

West Sussex and East Sussex, which between them border Hampshire, Surrey and Kent, both look after their own distinct archival collections. The East Sussex records are held at The Keep in Brighton, while the West Sussex headquarters can be found in the county town of Chichester.

In total, Ancestry’s collection has more than 11 million parish records spanning 457 years, from 1538 to 1995. The vast majority of West Sussex
