APPROACH

Be aware that the far end of Braye breakwater was destroyed shortly after it was built but remains submerged and protruding some three cables beyond the existing tip of the breakwater with depths as shallow as 1.2m

Braye Harbour is the only shelter of any note on the island of Alderney and this is very important to know if you are a sailor coming from the UK, as the island makes a very convenient stopover on the way to France, lying a mere 50nm from Portland. The island is not without its disadvantages however as the Alderney tidal race is notorious among sailors. Currents
