CALEDONIA, Minn. _ After several years of successfully conducting collector car consignment auctions at its home base in Wautoma, Wis., not too far south of Old Cars home offices in Stevens Point, Wayne Yoder’s W. Yoder Auction Co. went national with his first auction outside of Wisconsin. Granted, the sale wasn’t too far out of state, as it was just across the Mississippi River in Caledonia, Minn. Conducted on the grounds of the Houston County Fairgrounds, Yoder was able to get 93 vehicles consigned for a one-day auction on Saturday, June 25. In the end, 90 of those vehicle lots were declared sold for an impressive 96.7 percent sell-through rate.
While the well-attended auction was conducted in the modern Leyland “Gunny” Schulze Livestock Building, the cars were also on display for three days previous in nearby tents and on the lawn of the fairgrounds. In addition to the cars, Yoder also had 79 lots of signs and automobilia displayed just to the side of the auction podium, which were offered first thing at 9 a.m. to on-site bidders, plus online bidders, on three separate platforms.
Shortly before 11 a.m., the sale had transitioned to cars. While heavy on driver-grade examples, there were a few higher-condition examples. One of them was one of the shared high sales of the day, a 1964 Ford Galaxie 500/XL two-door fastback hardtop. Aside from aftermarket wheels, it looked stock on the outside, but under the hood, its 390-cid V-8 had been extensively customized. Both it and a 56,488-mile 2007 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 coupe
