BRIAN SAYS… EOS cameras lock exposure when the subject is in focus with One-Shot AF, and when the camera is using the default Evaluative metering. If you use any other metering pattern or Servo AF, there is no automatic exposure lock when focus is achieved. Since you mentioned action shots, I assume you are using Servo AF, which has no automatic lock; you need to press the AE-lock – star – button to lock the metered exposure.

Alternatively, you may have configured back button AF for action photos. You might have chosen only
