FLOWERS

Pinch out chrysanthemums

Pinch the growing tips out of chrysanthemum plants. This will encourage more side shoots and create several heads of smaller flowers this autumn rather than one large flower on the top.

Hold the tip between thumb and forefinger to nip the soft tip out with your fingernails. If the stem is particularly tall you can use secateurs to reduce the height, leaving enough layers of leaves for new side shoots, which emerge just above the leaves.
