Now we are out of lockdown, we’re keen for change. And our new-found freedom has inspired us to ask our hairdressers for cuts that require far more than kitchen scissors. “Women want something dynamic,” says Diane Gorgievski, Redken ambassador and founder of Koda Cutters in Bondi. “Polished is definitely on the up. We’re being asked for blow dries, blunt ends and crops.” For colour, the options range from rich-girl high-maintenance hues to easy highlights. Here’s what to ask for at your next appointment.

From the bixie (a bob and pixie cut combined) to the classic bob (thank you Selena Gomez), shorter styles are having a revival. “Razor cuts with soft ends, bobs and undercuts are popular,” confirms Gorgievski. Jamie Furlan at Xiang salon in Melbourne, meanwhile, is being asked for more relaxed styles. “I am getting requests for loose, carefree crops that feel lived in and naturally grown out,” he says.
