he Book Of Veles was published in 2021 and recounts a visit to the North Macedonian city of Veles – the world’s capital of fake news – by the Magnum photographer, Jonas Bendiksen. The book chronicles his meetings with a cast of interesting characters who are involved in the business of producing fake news. So far, so good – but The Book Of Veles is a work of fiction: the images were faked by Bendiksen and the introductory chapter was produced by software that was fed media content relating to the fake news industry in Veles.
