The Sopranos is widely regarded as one of the greatest TV series of all time. Focused on New Jersey mob boss Tony Soprano (the late James Gandolfini), the six-season drama follows the crime kingpin as he seeks treatment for his mental health while dealing with the personal and professional struggles of his life working in “waste management”.
This modern take on Italian-American was like nothing seen on primetime television before its debut in 1999. And while the blackout ending to the series was (and continues to be) divisive due to the ambiguity of what happens to Tony and his family, it’s also considered to be a stroke of groundbreaking brilliance.
