AUSTRALIAN AND NEW Zealand race fans were rocked on 23 March when racer, promoter, businessman and family man Iain Pero suffered a heart attack while mountain biking at Burrowye, near Albury. He was 60.

Pero attended Shirley Boys’ High in Christchurch. He photographed racing from age 15, selling prints he made in his backyard darkroom, before following elder brother Mike into competition in 1978. His other early
