Each year, when we ask experts to predict what might lie ahead, someone inevitably suggests: This will be rum’s year.

Looking at the latest rum releases from the past 24 months, it’s clear there’s no shortage of excellent bottles to tempt. Look to Appleton Estate’s Black River bottling, a 15-year-old Jamaica rum with succulent toffee and hazelnut flavors; a vibrant, grassy Hawaiian-made agricole rum from Kuleana Spirits; or the nuanced vanilla and cocoa powder tones of Copalli Cacao Rum, a white single-estate rum from Belize infused with organic cacao nibs.
