Level, EQ and distortion

hen working with distortion processors, it’s vital to consider your levels and gain staging at both the input and output stages. When we look at the basic relationship between gain and distortion it’s simple: raise a signal’s gain into a distortion plugin (by turning up its output, using the distortion device’s ‘input gain’ parameter, or a combination of both), and the waveform will be clipped, shaped or otherwise altered.
