Back on the road again

The New Zealand International Film Festival has released its 2022 programme, a reduced schedule reflecting what organisers say is the national event rebuilding itself after the financial impact of two pandemic-disrupted years.

In the biggest festival, in Auckland, which opens late this month, there are some 70 features on offer over 10 days. By comparison, the city’s festival last year, which was cancelled due to lockdown, had planned more than double that over a fortnight in more venues.

The festival’s shift back to its traditional mid-winter date has also narrowed the window for a pandemic-reduced supply of films to select from. But the NZIFF has again which will be the closing-night film in all 14 centres that the festival spreads to next month.
