How did you get into racing and into race timing?

My father raced bikes in the 60s until the early 2000s. My mum was always involved in the administration side of things, so as a child I was always at a racetrack. At the two-plus-four events at Sandown in the 70s they had this old clunking Longines timing machine, where you would press a button and a lap time would come out.
