In the 1950s and ‘60s, bespectacled, oft-beaming Bill Cullen was a ubiquitous presence as a TV game show host. He was a humble, funny Everyman, the kind of fellow you’d like as a neighbor. For a period of time in the late 1950s, he was on radio or TV for 25 ½ hours per week.

Cullen’s shot at stardom came filling in for the host of the 1946 radio quiz, which was notable as the first show produced by the legendary partners Mark Goodson and Bill Todman. Cullen appeared on many of their game shows over the next 40 years, even hosting such Goodson-Todman programs as , , and .
