Eagle Medallion
With bright pops of colour all over—you can also see that the fabrics are curated to provide a balanced effect. The background fabric of the centre squares feature two prints, placed opposite each other, and the background fabric of the four corner squares is the same. The quilt has been made in a combination of machine piecing and needleturn appliqué methods.

• 60cm (⅝yd) each of two grey spot print fabrics (appliqué background)• 25cm (¼yd) dark grey and purple print fabric (Border 1)• 1.5m (1¾yd) solid grey fabric (setting triangles)• 2m (2¼yd) large-scale grey and pink print fabric (Border 2) – see Note• 75cm (⅞yd) black and grey print fabric (Border 2 corners)• 20cm (¼yd) each of two yellow, two purple and two pink print fabrics (eagle and flowers)• 40cm• 10cm (⅛yd) each of one brown (tail feathers and feet) and one green print fabric (flower)• 70cm (⅞yd) green and orange spot print fabric (sun and binding)• 6in square each of four print fabrics (sun)• 4.4m (4⅞yd) backing fabric• Batting at least 220cm (85in) square• Size 10 straw/milliners needle• 80wt cotton threads to match the appliqué fabrics• Silver gel pen or a pencil• Water-soluble fabric-basting glue• Template plastic and fine permanent-marking pen• Scrap of cardboard• Rotary cutter, quilter’s ruler and mat• Sewing machine with ¼in foot• General sewing supplies
