Covid rocks Tour peloton

Debate was raging as the Tour de France got under way in Denmark last weekend on how to prevent a mass exodus of riders due to Covid-19 over the next three weeks.

With the virus circulating at near-record levels across Europe, teams, riders and organisers were nervous about it infiltrating the peloton, with five riders and one sports director being withdrawn in the days preceding the Grand Départ due to either testing positive or being deemed a high-risk contact.
