FOLLOWING Bramham and the debate on “dumbing down” cross-country (news, 23 June), in the past horses were hunted before going eventing, to give them and their riders experience of riding across country under all conditions. But nowadays, horses are considered too valuable to take hunting and many young riders have done little hunting.
