Reo 'Godfather' Relic

Frank Rickenbaugh’s 1922 Reo Speedwagon is proof that rags-to-riches stories can happen in real life, even if they start with chickens and lead to movies.

“My father was at a car show in Staten Island, New York, and somebody broke the glass bowl for their car’s fuel system,” said Rickenbaugh, the Wantage, N.J., owner of the 1922 Reo Speedwagon shown here. “So a bunch of the guys in their cars drove around Staten Island to gas stations and parts stores, looking for a glass bowl. They got to this place, it was an old gas station, and the guy said, ‘Yeah, I’ve got one in the back of the barn.’
