Blue Rag. Two words that name one of the most picturesque pieces of twin-track trail the Victorian High Country has to offer. And trust me, the region has a lot to offer. So there we were, day one of the national media launch for the new Husqvarna Norden 901 adventure bike and it had been a solid old day in the saddle. We’d started from Merrijig, in the shadow of Mount Buller, looped way north toward Whitfield and then Bright, and along the way conquered Goldie Spur Track in the shadow of Mount Buffalo. And doesn’t dear old Goldie pack a monster of a climb followed by a hell of a descent? Yow!
To wrap up the day we had a final tarmac climb up to Mount Hotham and on to the overnight stop at Dinner Plain, but with a fast detour to Blue Rag just for good measure. It was late in the day when we got there, and Blue Rag was in fine form. We had big blue skies and calm air. Other times you can get howling gales and mist so thick you can’t see a bike length in front of you.
It’s an iconic location, and one that draws ADV riders like bees to a honey pot. So it was only appropriate that the latest player in the multi-cylinder adventure bike ranks should want to play upon this hallowed turf. Welcome, Husqvarna, your status as an adventure bike brand has just been boosted, and how.
