Bosnia-Herzegovina

Bosnia-Herzegovina recently saw the first court verdict against anti-LGBTQ+ discrimination in the country. In early April, a court in the capital city of Sarajevo found that a former local lawmaker had used hate speech against LGBTQ+ people on a Facebook page condemning the first Pride parade in the country back in 2019. In the post, she called for LGBTQ+ people in the country to be isolated away from society. In response, LGBTQ+ activists filed a complaint against the ex-legislator. “This is a confirmation that hate speech and incitement to violence on social networks, especially of public figures and politicians, is not permissible and can be sanctioned,” Lela Hermovic, an organizer with BiH Pride, said in a statement. The verdict can still be appealed.
