Thumbing through A Book Full of Rogersons, you’re treated to a glimpse into another world: one of great naval commanders, racehorse owners and charismatic businessmen. Its author, Barnaby Rogerson, is a publisher at London-based Eland Publishing, and since he was a young boy he has been diligently piecing together his family’s history.

When we went into lockdown in March 2020, he recognised it as the ideal opportunity to press the pause button on publishing other people’s stories and to write those of his own family instead. At the heart of his account is a passion for history, the epic tale of a self-made dynasty, the search for an exiled Cavalier – and an unconventional great aunt who, like Barnaby, loved to tell stories.
