After six GladAfrica Championship matches, Richards Bay found themselves with only five points after a single win against Jomo Cosmos and two draws.
They had lost three in a row against Uthongathi, Black Leopards and Polokwane City, who flattened them 4-0 on the road. It wasn’t the best of starts, to say the least, for a club that had reached the Play-Offs in the 2020/21 season.
But after that sticky start, the side suffered just one more league defeat in the remaining 24 matches before clinching the title and winning automatic promotion to the DStv Premiership.
The Natal Rich Boys replace Baroka topflight and are led by former Thanda Royal Zulu CEO S’fiso ‘Jomo’Biyela as chairman, with Pitso Dladla running the rule as head coach.
“After we didn’t start well, we had a series of meetings with the coaches and the rest of the players,” says Siphamandla Mtolo, the club captain.
