DSI Roy Grace, a careworn detective keeping it together in Brighton, has sold millions of crime novels for his creator Peter James – and it’s something of a wonder the series took so long to get to screen. But it did, in 2021, with two film-length tellings of James’ first two books, and , with John Simm in the lead role. In the first, an awful stag-night road accident) investigate, they are drawn to the late man’s business partner and his former bride-to-be. Another three films screened recently in the UK and three more have been commissioned for 2023. There are 18 DSI Grace books in print and Simm, who has played a few coppers in his time, is happy to be in it for the long haul.
