Get away for… THE WEEKEND!

Before we crossed the border into Suffolk – having been touring in Norfolk – there was one thing we just had to do – visit Bressingham Steam and Gardens near Diss.

My wife, Sarah, and I are both of an age where we reminisce about the days of steam (even though I can’t remember ever seeing a steam train running a regular mainline passenger service). The smell and sounds of a steam engine take some beating, so when I spotted there was a steam park along the way we were both hooked.

Even more exciting than the steam trains for Sarah was the promise of a steam galloper, a carousel ride with horses. Sarah hadn’t ridden one of these since she was a child (but I won’t say how long ago that was). The entry fee gave us three rides each on the gallopers so, when we arrived, we headed straight for them.

With the organ pumping out suitable music – on this occasion – we accelerated to a breathtaking speed on bounding horses, ostriches and even cockerels. Youngsters of today with their death-defying roller
