THE FAMILY COURT MURDERS Face-to-face with A KILLER

Standing in front of an imposing figure with pockmarked skin, I looked into the man’s penetrating, ice-cold eyes.

‘I’m looking for Leonard Warwick,’ I said.

‘Get the f*** off my property,’ Leonard growled, hands thrust ominously into his pockets.

As I made a hasty retreat up the driveway, I prayed I wasn’t about to feel a gunshot in my back. It was the most terrifying moment of my career.

It was 2012, and I was investigating the series of horrific crimes in Sydney that became known as the Family Court Murders – four murders, two shootings and five bombings – between 1980 and 1985.

As an investigative crime journalist and author, I’ve always been fascinated by the dark side of killers and the courage of victims.

With my own partner, Ron, murdered in 1992, I know
