“Does it feel like home yet?” I ask, referring to the new Medallia, a 2016 Verdier/VPLP designed foiling IMOCA60 that Pip Hare has recently bought to race solo in the next Vendée Globe.
We’re ripping across Poole Bay and Pip has trusted me with the helm; with a casual tap of the autopilot remote control on her arm, it’s over to me. Before I know it, we’re clocking 20 knots of boatspeed in less than half that of windspeed. It’s an incredible ride: the boat glides over the water with astounding power yet the tiller feels as light and responsive as a dinghy. I can’t help but grin; looking up, I see Pip is also beaming, and I realise my question was a silly one. Of course
