The real victim?

One spring afternoon, a panicked call came through to the Vallejo Police Department in California.

Aaron Quinn, 30, said his girlfriend Denise Huskins, 29, had been abducted.

It was 23 March 2015 and Dr Quinn claimed intruders had broken into the couple’s house during the night.

He said they were forced to wear blacked-out swimming goggles, and told that physical therapist Denise was going to be taken.

She’d only be released if he paid an $8,500 ransom.

An investigation was launched, with hundreds of police officers and sniffer dogs combing the area.
