The Master Plan

PERHAPS APPROPRIATELY FOR A FRANCHISE IN WHICH destiny is a way of life, Ewan McGregor’s return to a galaxy far, far away feels like it could have been written in the stars. While an Obi-Wan Kenobi comeback tour seemed highly unlikely when he settled down to a life of exile at the close of George Lucas’s prequel trilogy, it turned out that fate, the universe and – perhaps most importantly – Disney+ had other ideas.

“What’s interesting about the character at this point,” writer/executive producer Joby Harold tells Red Alert, “is that and . If you consider how old Sir Alec Guinness would have been in , that puts Ewan around the same age – I think there’s maybe a three-year discrepancy there. So Ewan is actually of age at exactly the right time in his journey of an actor to take on this character that will one day become Alec Guinness’s interpretation of the role.”
