It was the crime scene from hell. Inside room 417 of the Travel Inn Motel in Times Square, New York, lay the bodies of two women. Both had been decapitated and their hands removed. The room had then been set on fire.
It was 1979, long before the forensic use of DNA, so detectives knew that with no heads or hands – only torsos – it’d be hard to identify the women.
