KICK & BASS TUNING

1 Foundation

If the foundation doesn‘t bang, the rest of the track doesn‘t stand a chance. It doesn‘t always have to sound likea wall. It is much more important that kick and bass play on the same wavelength.

2 Find frequency

The pitch of the bass drum is quickly found: Load Voxengo SPAN [1] as an insert effect and see in which range the spectrum strikes out the most. With kicks, this is usually clearly recognizable. SPAN displays frequency and pitch at the top.

3 Tuning

Tune the kick to the root note of the bass. When using samples, avoid jumps of more than two semitones, otherwise the force will be lost. In this case you should rather look for an alternative bass drum.
