The 1982 Camaro was the first of Cherolet’s third-generation pony cars, and the design was produced through the 1992 model year. However, the Camaro that was released was not the car originally planned by Chevrolet designers. Instead, a design based upon GM’s front-wheel-drive X-car was far enough along to be released as the 1980 Camaro. However, when GM Styling Chief Bill Mitchell retired, he was succeeded by Irv Rybicki, who performed a total review of ongoing projects.
