The previous 200 Series ranged from $80,000 to $132,000. The new 300 Series line-up stretches from $90,000 to $139,000. So prices have risen sharply.
The 4.5-litre turbo diesel V8 (200kW/650Nm) and six-speed auto that debuted with the 200 Series are gone, replaced by a 3.3-litre twin-turbo diesel V6 (227kW/700Nm) paired to a 10-speed auto.
Fuel consumption has improved marginally but, contrary to the naysayers, performance has improved in leaps and bounds.
It’s not a performance car but, to illustrate the point, testing on the VBox showed the V6 is a couple of seconds faster to 100kmh than the V8.
