1 WHERE TO START? “One of the joys of sewing is making clothing to fit your body just right, and this means being able to modify and adjust sewing patterns where necessary. As a non-binary person who prefers a more androgynous gender presentation, it can be a challenge to know where to start. I’m not a man or a woman – so do I start from a men’s pattern, or from a women’s pattern? When none of the models shown look like me, it can be hard to visualise if adjustments will even work.

There are a few gender-neutral patterns around nowadays, but they tend to be baggy, looser items, in order to fit such a large variety of bodies. What about more fitted garment options? I prefer straight-fitting clothing that
