Let’s talk about the money

MONEY is one of those sensitive subjects we are reluctant to raise. I often get calls from fanciers and the conversation begins with: “How much are your budgies?”

That always puts me on the back foot. I never know what to say. Is the caller asking about a pet bird? Are they talking about birds to set up an aviary with – colour birds – or are they looking for a top-quality bird to improve their stud? I always try to find out what the caller is
