Fabulous philadelphus

AS you stroll through your early summer garden, you may catch a powerful breeze of orange-blossom fragrance – the first hint of one of the most dependable plants in the garden. This will be the mock orange, philadelphus, one of our toughest, most cold-hardy and most resilient of deciduous shrubs that combines the almost intoxicating fragrance with an effervescent profusion of white flowers.

There are dwarf varieties for the front of the flower garden, and taller varieties for the back of the border or as specimens. Some of those with arching growth are especially pretty and we now have the first variety that almost makes a pillar rather than a bush and the first with an all-summer flowering season.
