Throughout winter, the crooked, asymmetric star patterns of Centaurus ride above the southern horizon like the rigging of a wrecked pirate ship. And there’s certainly treasure to, or NGC 5139, the largest globular cluster in the Milky Way. It’s legitimately vast, containing several million stars; most globs have a few hundred thousand to perhaps one million.
