STARTING THE SECOND DAY OF CELEBRATIONS THANKSGIVING SERVICE SENIOR ROYALS TAKE THE LEAD AS THE QUEEN ‘RELUCTANTLY’ STAYS AT WINDSOR
‘Thank you for staying the course. Thank you, for continuing to be faithful to the pledges you made 70 years ago’
The Queen may not have been there in person, but she was very much in the minds of the almost 40 royals and more than 2,000 guests gathered at St Paul’s Cathedral in London to pay tribute to her “70 years of faithful and dedicated service”.
On the second day of official celebrations to mark the Platinum Jubilee, Her Majesty’s loved ones turned out in force for the Service of Thanksgiving, led by the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge after the monarch decided, “with great reluctance”, to stay at Windsor, having suffered “some discomfort” during the first day’s festivities.
Despite the disappointment, thousands of colourfully dressed well-wishers formed a sea of red, white and blue outside the historic landmark, cheering loudly as members of the royal family arrived.
‘We come together to offer to God our thanks and praise for the reign of Her Majesty The Queen’
WELCOME RETURN
There were big cheers too at seeing the Duke
