Fainting (vasovagal syncope or neurocardiogenic syncope) occurs when your body overreacts to certain triggers, such as the sight of blood. The trigger causes your vagal nerves to respond, by slowing your heart rate, dilating blood vessels in your limbs, and dropping your blood pressure, leading to reduced blood flow to your brain, causing brief loss of consciousness.
