It is a fact that most man-made features in Britain — such as woods, copses and pools — originated as places that provided sport and food.
Creating ponds can be expensive and if you don’t know what you’re about, you can make a mess of things. But much more easily made is a scrape. These can afford you good shooting as well as providing excellent conservation value.
A scrape is shallow and often dry at times, but should hold water in winter. The sides are gently sloping, merging with the surrounding area. Mallard and teal are dabblers
