Most explanations of how image sensors work will include a description of a component called a photodiode. This is the part of a pixel that is actually sensitive to light, and produces the photocharge, which is measured to produce the exposure reading from the pixel. The design of this component is full of subtlety, and upon its success rests the performance of the sensor
