    Spino’s Lemon Ice

    My dad often shares memories of his childhood in Peterstown, an Italian-American neighborhood in Elizabeth, N.J. One of my favorite stories is about a cantankerous ice machine that became a Peterstown legend—Spino’s Lemon Ice.

    Dad’s parents, Josie and Albert Spino, immigrated from Italy in 1905 and 1920 respectively.
