THE BURNING SEA 12

★★★☆☆ OUT 30 MAY DIGITAL

From the makers (2015) and (2018) comes another environmental-disaster flick, which achieves an impressive amount of spectacle without a Roland Emmerich-sized budget. The story dives headlong, and with confidence, into genre tropes, as a scrappy band of heroes attempts to save the day after a huge crack on the floor of the North Sea threatens life as we know it. The character development is well handled amid all the set-piece chaos, resulting in a predictable but engaging brush with catastrophe, topped off with some familiar anti-fossil-fuel rhetoric.
