ISLE OF MULL CALEDONIAN MACBRAYNE’S STALWART LINKING OBAN AND CRAIGNURE

One of Caledonian MacBrayne’s busiest routes is that between Oban and Craignure on Mull, operated since 1988 by the 4,719gt ferry Isle of Mull. The service was inaugurated in 1964 as part of a triangle connecting Oban with Craignure and Lochaline by the pioneering car ferry Columba, and was upgraded in the early 1970s following the introduction of linkspans enabling drive-through operation for the first time, and the Swedish-built Caledonia took over the service from 1976.
