Noises off…
More and more new campsites are opening in and around the Dinokeng Reserve, with the Stilte Game Farm and Bush Camp the latest addition. Stilte is just past the reserve, on the Rust de Winter Road.
The owners, Pieter and Gerida Booyens, worked in bush camps all over Africa for 16 years, and they used their experience to inspire the creation of their own spot – at Stilte’s bush camp no provision is made for electricity or water at your stand. The farm is 70 ha in size and there are several game species, including warthogs, jackals, steenbok, duikers, impalas, blesbok, and zebras.
The campsite itself is not fenced, but there aren’t any predators to worry about. Don’t be surprised when Fiona or Surprise (a donkey and her daughter), or Bella and Bessie, two tame ostriches, drop by.
The eight stands are laid out in the bush around the ablution block. You pitch camp on a cleared area and make a fire on the ground where stones are packed in a circle. Outside of the rubbish bin, you take care of the rest.
