ARCHITECTURE AND MORTALITY

World-class exhibitions of classic cars are nothing new, and enthusiasts are spoilt for choice globally in terms of fabulous dedicated museums. But every now and again something comes along that is a game-changer, that raises the bar through its purpose, its content or the manner in which it is put together. Or, in the case of the recently opened MOTION Autos Art Architecture in Spain, all three.

In a way that is no surprise. After all, its mastermind is the architect Baron Norman Foster, known in his own field for London’s ‘Gherkin’, Hong Kong’s HSBC headquarters, France’s Millau viaduct and so many more. In the motoring world he is most renowned for his recreation of the incredible Dymaxion, invented by his former mentor Richard Buckminster Fuller. There are plenty more cars in the Foster garage, however, and nine of them are on show in this exhibition,
