9 Once again, we saw him so frustrated early on only to mount a brilliant comeback. Recovered from firstlap puncture to sit in fourth before engine temperatures spiked. Race pace was even a whisker faster than Russell’s, but drops a point for having qualified behind his stablemate.

10 His best qualifying performance of the year beat one of the Red Bulls and was well ahead of Hamilton. Defended brilliantly against Perez and Verstappen in a slower car to even lead the race. Despite Mercedes’ gains, he did more than was expected in an exceptional drive.
