Making a Memory

One advantage of getting older and becoming a senior is that you have a large figurative suitcase, maybe even two, filled with lots of life’s baggage and memories of things that have happened during your journey. You may also find yourself revisiting those memories with renewed frequency and different perspective. Every August and November, the months my grandparents passed away, I always find myself walking down memory lane with them.

When I was very young, my parents moved to the small rural towns of Johnsonville and Lake City, South Carolina, to do volunteer work in the community. One set of grandparents followed shortly thereafter and lived next door
